Sulaimaniyah,
Kurdistan (iraq) - The Kurdistani Islamic Union,
headed by Salah Eddin Mohamed Baha Eddin, has
announced its participation in the coming elections
by mid-December with a slate, separate from the
Kurdistani alliance slate.
In a statement, the union, which is the third with
regard to power after the Kurdistani Democratic
Party, headed by Massoud Barzani, and the Kurdistani
National Union, headed by Jalal Talsbani, said, "We
have decided to participate in the coming elections
with a slate, which is independent from the alliance
slate." |

The statement continued, "We frankly confirm that
the objective of this step is to fulfill the needs
of the arena, open a new window for citizens and
diversity and activate the movement of reformation
in the coming stage. It clarified that the reasons
for that are "the illegitimate use of the
governmental financial and administrative facilities
for the interest of the two governing parties and
the lack of giving an inclusive role to the elected
institutions in Kurdistan (…) in the revival of the
political life and expanding diversity."
The union believed, "The democratic game and the
state of diversity and honorable competition are
facing a huge dilemma in Kurdistan."
The Kurdistani Islamic Union has six seats in the
Iraqi National Assembly, within the slate of the
Kurdistani Alliance, which includes 75 deputies and
nine seats in the Kurdistani National Assembly (111
deputies).
