PRAGUE- Iraq is
greatly interested in Czech military police
continuing with its training of their Iraqi
counterparts, Prime Minister Jiri Paroubek said
after his meeting with Iraqi President Jalal
Talabani today.
Talabani greatly appreciated the Czech police's
work.
Talabani and Paroubek agreed that the transfer of
power and security tasks to the hands of Iraqis was
an indispensable condition for the reduction of
terrorist attacks in Iraq and stabilisation of the
country.
Czech police are to stay in Iraq next year, too, but
the proposal is yet to be approved by the Czech
parliament. |

Talabani came with his wife on a three-day visit to
Prague on Monday. The Czech Republic is the first
European country to be visited by Talabani since his
election.
He started his European tour in Prague.
"The more the power will be passed into the hands of
Iraqi citizens and security forces, the better for
the right cause and the smaller the hotbed for the
activities of the terrorists who are perhaps the
biggest plague of Iraq," Paroubek said.
Paroubek said that he and Talabani wanted Iraq to be
stable, while democracy should be firmly anchored in
it.
"We share the interest of stabilising democracy in
this country," Paroubek said.
The Czech Republic has about 100 military policemen
in southern Iraq close to the Kuwait border. Most of
them train members of the local security forces at
the Shaiba base. They rotate every three months.
There is also a small team of Czech doctors and
health nurses in the region.
