Iraq-Kurdistan request for new Turkish
border crossing

October (AKI) - In a letter signed by Iraqi key
figures - president Jalal Talabani, prime minister
Ibrahim Al Jaafari and planning minister Berham
Saleh - Iraq has asked Turkey to open five
additional border crossings, in a move which would
develop trade between the two countries and lighten
traffic at the only land access to Turkey at al-Khabour,
in (Kurdistan) northern Iraq.
One of the new suggested border gates would be five
kilometres away from al-Khabour.
