It was
an important step to unify the Kurdish parties in
one list including the minorities in Kurdistan. We
all know that the KDP and PUK didn’t take this
measure, only after feeling the danger of loosing
their power to independent Kurdish lists. In a
survey of Hawlati newspaper the majority of Kurds
would vote for an independent group rather than the
two Kurdish parties. The most striking of the list
and the tactics of the last 2 years is the exclusion
of a very important electoral and political groups
namely the Failee, Yezidi and Shabak Kurds.
You see minority groups in the list like the
Turkomans, Assyrians, Chaldeans and Suriyanees.
But not the mentioned groups.
The Kurdish leadership should take action very soon
to include the Failees in the list and not waste
their votes to the Shia list. And losing Yezidis and
Shabak votes to AL-Yawar Sunni list.
It is amazing to see the political blindness of the
two Kurdish parties, the Failees are a very
important powerful group in the Baghdad society.
They were expelled by Saddam only because he was
intimidated by their economic power. The failees
were even matching and competing the thrived Jewish
community of Baghdad in the late 30s and 40s.
The Failees are very well integrated in the Arab
society of Baghdad and the Shiite South. But still
have very strong feeling of their Kurdishness. I
think Kurdish leadership should recruit and use
Failee Kurdish figures in their political struggle
in Baghdad. They are much better aware of the Arab
mentality and better articulate in Arabic than most
Kurdish politicians of Kurdistan.
Besides their must come an end to the alienation of
Yezidi Kurds. Their Muslim brethren have caused a
lot of pain to the Yezidis agitated by their enemies
and religious hatred. Yezidis are the truthful
manifestation of an antique Kurdish religion. They
are the living evidence of our ancient heritage.
Many Muslims have accused them of all kind of
devilish acts while it is one of the most Gnostic
religions in the middle east that influenced many
mystics and philosophers like G.I.Gurdjieff and
J.Bennett.
Yezidis are a considerable group with an important
electoral potential which should not be ignored. The
case is the same with Shabak Kurds who have been
decades persecuted because of their ethnicity and
religious beliefs. Shabak is a tribe with more than
200 000 memebrs.
Kurds must put their differences aside and work
together in these sensitive and vulnerable times
which all our neighbours luring at our achievements.
We should support the unifies Kurdish list with all
the shortcomings of PUK and KDP to ensure an
overwhelming victory that make our voice stronger in
Iraq.
