Al-Yawar’s chauvinistic proclamation must be vehemently condemned  14.10.2004
Referendum Campaign

Al-Yawar’s chauvinistic and aggressive proclamation against the people of Kurdistan must be vehemently condemned and rejected

On the 5th Oct, 2004, Ghazi Ajil Al-Yawar the so-called Iraqi president stood against the claim of referendum and the right of the people of Kurdistan to determine their destiny, that was raised in the recent demonstrations.

Al-Yawar stated: "What we do not accept is the issue of secession because it is an act of treachery and we will fight it drastically." Al-Yawar affirmed and said: "We will fight those who stand up for separation."

Ghazi Al-Yawar’s call shows lucidly that he represents the chauvinism of Arabic nationalism that calls for fighting the people of Kurdistan. He places on Iraqi government’s agenda the plan of a large scale attack on the people of Kurdistan to deprive them of all their rights, right of freedom and independence and to destabilize their security and livelihood.

The proclamation is deemed to be an appeal for a chauvinistic war by which the people of Kurdistan will be switched to similar conditions of war and ethnic suppression that the past Ba’ath chauvinist regime had imposed on the people of Kurdistan and which created the catastrophe of the chemical bombardment of the city of Halabja and mass killing of the people of Kurdistan.

Therefore, we strongly condemn this chauvinistic proclamation and fiercely protest against Ghazi Ajil Al-Yawar, and the interim government that would be responsible for the consequences of such an attack on the people of Kurdistan, and their rights.

We call upon Ghazi Ajil Al-Yawar and the interim government to withdraw the statement (proclamation) immediately, and to make their apologies to the people of Kurdistan. Moreover, Kurdish political parties, participants in the interim government, must take official stance in this concern, and condemn Al-Yawar’s proclamation. They should support the right of the people of Kurdistan to separate from Iraq and establish an independent state. The Kurdish political parties should support the demand for holding a referendum on the independence of Kurdistan.

We are calling upon all political parties, the masses, organizations of Kurdistan, and Iraq, and international figures and organizations to support the people of Kurdistan in their rights and sign this communiqué:
