As time approaches for
the general elections in Iraq psychological war has
intensified against the majority of the Iraqi
nation.
The election is due to be held on January 30, 2005
in which 275 people will be elected to form the
Iraqi Majlis of founders and to write Iraq’s
Constitution.
Following the publication of the list of parties
expected to take part in elections – numbering more
than 228 parties – the country’s Shia and Kurd
groups have been warmly welcomed by the people.
These parties have all been approved by religious
authorities.
Concurrent with the great endeavors of the Iraqi
people and officials to hold the elections on time,
the terrorists have intensified their attacks on the
country by infiltrating into Iraq through the
borders of neighboring Arab countries.
These terrorist groups try to prevent the formation
of a democratic government based on the will of the
majority of the nation by launching a psychological
warfare and terrorist attacks against the people.
Besides the terrorist attacks, what has made the
Iraqi nation quite concerned in the current critical
situation is the suspicious movements of some Arab
leaders who are trying to prevent the formation of a
democratic system in Iraq and are attempting to
disrupt the January election.
The Iraqi nation believes that an evil triangle,
comprising certain Arab leaders, terrorists and
remnants of the former Baath regime, has emerged
with the aim of preventing democratic elections in
Iraq through new conspiracies.
Jordan’s King Abdullah II in an interview with the
U.S. press has recently expressed his concern over
the formation of a democratic government in Iraq
claiming that more than one million Iranian Shias
have entered Iraq in order to vote in Iraq’s
elections.
Along these lines, Egypt’s general prosecutor also
claimed that an Iranian diplomat has paid a certain
amount of money to an Egyptian terrorist to
assassinate some high-ranking Egyptian officials.
These negative propagandistic attempts are
undoubtedly related to the Islamic Republic’s recent
success in the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA)
Board of Governors meeting as well as the vast
activities of the popular political parties in Iraq
to hold a sound and free election in their country.
Reports indicate that a carefully-thought regional
conspiracy is being formed in order to sow rift
between the Iraqi Shia and Sunni Muslims and to
sketch an illegitimate portrait of the upcoming
elections in the country.
The aim of these conspiracies is to help the
criminal Baathist elements gradually obtain power in
the country by taking advantage of the tense
circumstances in Iraq.
These elements who are currently residing in Jordan
are waiting for the right time to carry out their
plan which is to transfer thousands of Palestinians
from Jordan to western Iraq.
The recent visit of the Jordanian king to the United
States, the suspicious movements of some officials
from the Palestinian Authority to resolve the
problem of the Palestinian refugees, the intensified
terrorist attacks against the Iraqi nation, and the
propagandistic attempts against the Islamic Republic
of Iran all indicate this fact.
Jordan, that had looted billion of dollars from
Iraq’s national assets by cooperating with the
former Baath regime and helped suppress the Iraqi
Shias over the past 25 years, has lost a significant
gravy train, and for the same reason is trying to
reinstate Iraq to its former state.
As a small and poor state which 60% of its
population are Palestinians it has always cast a
covetous eye on the wealthy neighbor and would spare
no effort to restore a monarchy to this country.
Jordan is trying to prevent the holding of general
elections in Iraq and in case it fails to do so it
would question the legitimacy of the election in the
future.
Some Iraqi officials have also taken a unified
stance with Jordan charging the Iraqi Shias and the
Islamic Republic of Iran with various accusations in
order to disrupt the elections under the pretext of
insecurity and a decision by some small groups to
boycott the elections.
So the Iraqi nation particularly the Shia clerics
should neutralize the conspiracies with complete
vigilance by unifying the people and encouraging
them to take part in the elections because if Iraq
fails to hold elections on the scheduled time this
would mean that the terrorists have gained complete
victory over the country.
Contrary to what is currently understood security
would gradually be established in Iraq through
holding elections, for it is the elections that can
legitimize Iraq’s future government and gradually
defeat and isolate the criminal terrorists. SA/HL/MS
