A VIGIL has been held in memory of an Iraqi Kurd who
was killed outside a pub.
And despite making two arrests, police are still
eager to speak to three men who may hold information
about Kalan Kawa Karim's murder.
On Saturday hundreds gathered to lay flowers outside
the Potter's Wheel pub on Kingsway, Swansea, where
Mr Karim was attacked.
His friend Sarkat Junad, 30, said the killing had
shocked the city's close-knit Kurdish community.
"It went very well, lots of people turned up," he
said. "We were very surprised."
Mr Junad, a mechanic who is married with a daughter,
said Mr Karim had a wife and parents still living in
Iraq.
Mr Karim was taken to Morriston Hospital in Swansea
after the attack, but died later of his injuries.
Uniformed police last night began patrolling the
area until 2am this morning to ask people near the
scene whether they saw anything suspicious there
last week.
On Friday, detectives investigating his death on
September 6 arrested two men. On Saturday night,
magistrates gave police permission to detain them
for a further 28 hours.
Detective Superintendent Ken Isaac said, "Although
we have two people in custody there are still two
people outstanding. They are also suspected of being
involved in this tragic incident. I am appealing to
anyone who has any information at all, however
small, to come forward. They may be able to give
crucial information that can help us to detect this
crime."
On September 7 one of the suspects was filmed by
CCTV walking past a bus stop near McDonald's, on
Kingsway, at 11.44pm.
Detectives said they were eager to trace another man
seen on the footage, who the suspect flicks on the
head as he walks past.
This man is described as in his 20s, possibly of
dark European appearance with shoulder-length dark
hair and a goatee beard. He was wearing a beige top
with red arms and blue jeans.
