Kurdish leaders must act now.
Kurdish people in Kurdistan and everywhere must
act together to stop Turkish aggression!
Dr Kamal Mirawdeli
Kurdistan Observer
Feb 23, 2003
Time is running out. It is time for ACTION now. It
is time for unity of all Kurds everywhere. This is
a defining moment for our nation. If we miss this
opportunity and allow to be victimised again, we
will have to wait another century for another
opportunity. There is a grave danger facing our
nation.
It is clear that the feeble policy of the Kurdish
leaders based on bargaining everything achieved
over the last ten years, with the lives of a
quarter of a million of martyrs, for the illusion
of a so-called democratic and federal Iraq has not
achieved any concrete results. Rather it has
suffocated the voice of our people and it might
kill their dream of freedom and independence
It is the ABC of politics, that any diplomatic
success must be reflected and written in policies
not just hypocritical handshaking and smiles. But
we have not seen or heard any statement by any of
the governments which have received the Kurdish
leaders, telling their people, the Kurds or the
world what their "Kurdish policies" are or whether
they have one. Instead of insisting on such a
policy and have written guarantees, the Kurdish
leaders stupidly think that silence, demagogy and
deceiving themselves and their people are the best
tactics they can use.
It is shameful for these leaders to deceive and
mislead our people at these sensitive times?
Why have not they told us exactly what happened in
the recent Ankara meeting between Kurdish leaders,
Turkey and the US’s envoy?
Is it true that the Kurds have been told to forget
about federalism, not to attack Kirkuk and Mosul,
accept Turkish army’s invasion of Kurdistan and
even prevent the displaced people from Kirkuk to
return to their homes?
Is this true? Has this outrage happened? What were
the responses of Kurdish leaders??
What is the purpose of a national assembly?
Why haven’t they reported what happened to
Kurdistan parliament?
Pan-Kurdistan Action Needed NOW!
However, the position of Turkey is clear. The
Turkish fascists do not want only to continue
their occupation of North Kurdistan and their
repression of our people there, but they also
think that they have divine right to suppress and
kill Kurds everywhere and to prevent the creation
of a Kurdish state in South Kurdistan.
It will be a great shame if the US goes along with
this criminal tendency and thereby undermine all
its claims about fighting dictatorships and
extremism in the Middle East.
Whatever Turkey, US and others think and do, we
must first depend on ourselves and the resources
of our 40 million people.
The Kurdish leaders must come back to their senses
quickly and act honourably and courageously to
defend the achievements of our people and the
right of our people to self-determination.
Kurdish leaders and political parties including
KADEK, other Kurdish political parties in Turkey,
Kurdish parties of Iran, all Kurdish organisations
in Europe, North America and other parts of the
world, Kurdish figures and intellectuals and the
masses of Kurdistani people in Kurdistan and
abroad, MUST ACT TOGETHER URGENTLY to face the
dangers of the current situation.
The availability of Kurdish satellite TVs, Kurdish
radios and hundreds of Kurdish websites will make
it feasible to organise impressive national action
and let the world hear the united voice of our
nation.
I suggest the following programme of action and I
appeal to all Kurdish leaders, all Kurdish
political parties, all Kurdish political and
intellectual figures and all Kurdish organisations
anywhere in the world to urgently respond to these
suggestions so that a programme of action can
implemented as urgently as possible;
A programme of action:
Kurdistan parliament to convene immediately and
make these resolutions:
Kurdish people in south Kurdistan categorically
oppose any Turkish intervention and state clearly
that the Kurdish people will fight the Turks if
they invade Kurdistan.
Parliament to call for a day of general strike
against the prospect of Turkish invasion.
Parliament/Kurdish political parties to call for a
world-wide national day of action of marches and
demonstrations in Kurdistan and the world. [See
below]
Kurdistan parliament to reaffirm that federalism
is the MINIMUM of our people’s demands and that if
this aim is challenged and if the US and Britain
do not guarantee this minimum demand, the Kurdish
parliament will declare Kurdistan as a confederal
state. As Turkey insists that it troops will enter
Kurdistan to prevent a Kurdish state, Parliament
should also debate the possibility of declaring
Kurdistan a federal state NOW to stress the free
will of our people and challenge Turkey’s will to
aggression and repression. Declaring a confederal
Kurdistan state will bring Kurdistan to the
attention of the world and put the US and Britain
in a critical position to make their intentions
clear with regards to the future of the Kurdish
people. To suggest that federalism can be
postponed until a so-called democratic Iraq is
established is at best a criminal stupidity if not
a criminal betrayal of the sacrifices of our
martyrs and the will of our people. Declaring
Kurdistan a free state will inspire and mobilise
Kurdistani people everywhere.
Kurdish political parties and organisations should
organise a world-wide day of action including
marches and demonstrations in all major cities in
Kurdistan: {South Kurdistan, Northern Kurdistan,
Eastern Kurdistan and Western Kurdistan and in all
major cities in Europe, US and the world. The main
slogans of the day of action could be: NO Turkish
intervention in Kurdistan. Self determination for
Kurdish people. No more victimisation of Kurdish
people.
Due to the urgency of the situation I suggest the
Day of Action to be next Saturday 1st of March
2003.
3. This DAY OF ACTION can be publicised by all the
three Kurdish satellite TVs: Media TV, Kurdistan
TV and Kurdsat TV and by all Kurdish websites ,
newspapers and Kurdish organisations. Kurdish
people in Turkey, Iran and everywhere in the world
should be asked and encouraged to participate in
this Day of Action. And this should be only the
first united action of similar actions in future.
I appeal again to Kurdistan parliament, Barzani
and Talabani and all Kurdish leaders in other
parts of Kurdistan, Kurdish political parties and
organisations and Kurdish people everywhere to
come together and act together at this defining
moment and critical time. Please organise action
committees and prepare yourselves for a world-wide
NTIONAL DAY OF ACTION.
