As a
Kurd, I would like to express my immense gratitude
to the people of Korea for sending their beloved
sons and daughters to help reconstruct my country,
Kurdistan, which has been savaged by decades of
terror, destruction and neglect under Saddam
Hussein.
I sincerely agree with the Kurdish Prime Minister
Nechirvan Barzani, who said during a speech to the
troops that, "We have no friends but mountains and
Koreans." This is because the Koreans are the first
people in Kurdish history to selflessly risk their
lives for the well being of Kurds, one of the most
dispossessed and persecuted peoples in the world.
You can be assured that your sons and daughters are
most welcome in my country and they will be safe and
secure in Kurdistan for the duration of their
mission.
There are seventy thousand peshmerga fighters
between the nearest terrorist and the Korean troops
and my people will protect your sons and daughters
from any threat with all their strength, as they
have traveled thousands of kilometres away from home
to provide humanitarian relief.
The Kurdish people will never forget your
contribution to the reconstruction of Kurdistan and
I hope this will be the beginning of a long
friendship between our two peoples, one that
transcends the banalities of national interest.
