Kurdistan, as a land of an ancient people, perhaps
is among a few nations in the world that does not
have a national academy. Therefore it was perceived
to be a major focus of the Kurdish scientists,
scholars, and Kurdistan Federate State-KFS to
establish such an academy to provide scientific
research to promote public awareness about national
needs.
One of the aims of KAS is to provide expertise to
assist the KFS to insure the quality of program for
development of the infrastructure of Kurdistan. The
current purpose is to transform the ideas and
knowledge generated from research and practice of
many Kurdish scientists in order to bring global
recognition to Kurdistan as a nation that wants to
progress and become a part of the modern society.
The Kurdistan Academy of Science has unveiled the
KAS Program for the Cooperation and Innovative and
the Implementation of the Academic and Scientific
research (CIIASR) for providing new grounds
involving scholars and scientists for improving
National Scientific Research with the guiding
principles for the Development and implementation of
the Think-Tank Program to produce valid and reliable
scientific applications.
In light of such guiding beliefs, KAS will generate
its efforts and focus on the following:
• Identify and establish a network among Kurdish and
non-Kurdish scientists and scholars.
• Promoting education and public awareness.
• Providing expertise to assist Kurdistan Federate
State to improve the infrastructure of Kurdistan.
• Providing opportunities to promote scientific
research to undertake the quality outcomes, and
• Advancing awareness about national and
international relations.
On August 2, 2004, KAS held its first preliminary
meeting in Stockholm, Sweden and formed a steering
committee of 17 experts to reach out to other
Kurdish and none-Kurdish scholars and scientists to
create the most efficient network. The scholars and
scientists of KAS will share responsibility to work
on different projects related to their expertise to
produce the best possible outcomes.
The steering committee consists of scholars from
different countries including Kurdistan. Each member
of the steering committee will represent KAS in the
country where he or she resides. The committee
operates until the conference dissolves it next
year.
